Dress code doesn’t allow for American Flag undershirt

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Sorry for the posting delay folks.  I have been waiting to get my computer back from Microsoft.  This post is coming from my phone because I thought it was too crazy to leave alone.  Apparently a student in Texas was suspended for wearing an American Flag t shirt under a hoodie.  He was asked to raise his hoodie to show the shirt to his teacher who then placed him into “in school suspension” because students are only allowed to wear solid color shirts with a few exceptions.  Later the principal stated the teacher misinterpreted the code and that the reprimand wouldn’t go onto his “permanent record”. Which is a line that makes me chuckle every time I hear it.

Cant pass the mandated graduation test? Here is a diploma anyway.

In a move that perfectly illustrates the absurdity of knee-jerk legislation, California Bill SB172 will grant an estimated 40,000 diplomas to students who failed the California High School Exit Exam since 2006 if signed by the Governor.

According to this article, 249,000 students have failed the test since it was implemented in 2006, although only an approximate 40,000 met all other requirements to graduate.  The state has also dropped the test for the next three years as it works to redesign the test to align with Common Core. Thousands of non-graduates in their mid 20s gave a collective, “Who Cares?” in response.

Now if they had simply said, ‘this test is stupid, let get rid of it and never have another thought to making a student who has been in school for 13 years take a pass/fail test in order to get his diploma on top of all the other requirements.” then I would be happy.  But nope, they are just suspending the current, “outdated” test in order to write up a new one.

“We cannot in good conscious continue a graduation requirement that no one can meet,” said bill author Carol Liu, D-La Canada Flintridge. “SB172 does not permanently eliminate the Exit Exam … it simply suspends the requirement to pass the Exit Exam while the issues are being studied.”

Im sure the Testing Conglomerates are happy to see that the tests will return.

Teachers can be bullies too, this one needs to be taught a lesson

In one of the most disturbing stories Ive posted here, a teacher in West Feliciana Parish, LA was arrested for allegedly kicking, slapping, and taking food from one of her students.  According to the story:

A sheriff’s deputy who reviewed camera footage of the incident wrote in an arrest report that as the student walked by Lemelle in the school’s cafeteria, she could be seen kicking him in the rear. The video also showed her slapping the boy on the back of the head, the deputy wrote.

Lemelle also is accused of taking some of the boy’s lunch food, allegedly telling the first-grader that “he only needed one taco,” the report says.

Witnesses told the deputy that Lemelle often brought an empty plate to lunch and filled it with food from her students.

How long has this been going on?  No adults at the school knew about this?  You send your kid to school expecting them to earn an education and instead the person who is placed in a position of authority over them treats them like this?  If this is true, I hope this woman gets prison time and I hope her fellow inmates teach her a thing or two about how bullying feels!

The Hobbit used to be required reading, now, not so much.

This may be my favorite one so far.  A student in Odessa, TX was suspended for claiming he was in possession of The One Ring, and that he could make his friend disappear.  These types of magical threats aren’t tolerated, you see, so suspension was the logical option…

This is the third time Aiden has been suspended this year. His father told the Daily News that Aiden was suspended once for referring to another student as black and another time for bringing The Big Book of Knowledge, a children’s encyclopedia to school, which his teacher discovered contained an illustration of a pregnant woman.

How do you even respond to something like that?

Teacher dressed up as pirate prompted Richlands lockdown

While I am all for protecting our children, and have no problem with locking down schools in order to protect children during a dangerous situation, this seems a bit stupid to me.  In a story from 2014, we find that four schools in North Carolina were shut down because a teacher who dresses up like a pirate each year to celebrate “pirate week” was mistaken for a man in an olive drab shirt, camo pants, and a gun on his hip.  Come on man!  Are these the type of people we want teaching our students?  In this case the person who reported the suspicious activity was a cafeteria worker, but I think it shows the underlying culture of stupidity built into the system.

Here is the story with updates

Ze couldnt make this up if Ze wanted to. UT advises dropping gender specific pronouns.

Filed in Uncategorized 2 Comments

OK Folks, this is real. The University of Tennessee in Knoxville’s office for Diversity and Inclusion suggested in their August 2015 Newsletter that Students and Professors stop using “he” and “she” and use gender neutral pronouns such as “ze” instead.  When meeting someone new they suggest asking what pronoun to use.

How do you know what pronoun someone uses? If you cannot use the methods mentioned above, you can always politely ask. “Oh, nice to meet you, [insert name]. What pronouns should I use?” is a perfectly fine question to ask.

I’m sorry but if someone comes up to me and asks me what pronoun I am they are getting cussed out.  I’m pretty obviously a “he”.  If I call someone a he or she and they tell me that they prefer another pronoun, no problem whatsoever.  I respect your gender identity and if I get it wrong, my bad, it will only happen once.

Gary Gates of the Williams Institute at UCLA released a report in 2011 estimating Transgender as 0.3% of the population in the US.  So a school with 30,030 undergrads in 2015 is supposed to rewrite their vocabulary in order to make approximately 90 students not feel excluded.  I’ve met two transgender folks in my lifetime and one of them self identified as a he and the other as a she…and it was pretty obvious which was which when talking to them because they dressed and acted in line with their gender identification.  So in reality we can probably take that 90 and at least cut it in half.

The school did clarify their position stating the use of these new pronouns wasn’t a mandate,  but I think we are walking a slippery slope when we even think that pronoun usage is somehow inclusive or exclusive.  My favorite part is when they try to equate using ‘she’ with calling a mentally disabled person ‘retarded’.  I’m going to resist the urge to point out the irony there, I’ll just say that I learned in first grade the difference between an adjective and a pronoun.

OK, its been a while since this site has seen much posting activity but I assure you that isn’t due to the lack of school stupidity. I’m Shawn, and Ill be the flashlight shedding light on the Department of Education at all levels. You see, even though President Carter elevated the DoED to cabinet level in 1979(a move the Republicans decried as unconstitutional and vowed to reverse), it wasn’t until 2001 when George W. Bush(a Republican) signed No Child Left Behind into law did they really take over the setting of standards for education.

The mission of the Federal DoED is “to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.” In 2012 they promoted and fostered to the tune of nearly $90 Billion. Each year approximately 50 Million students are enrolled in public schools in the USA. This site will illuminate the horrifying actions taken on a regular basis by those charged with developing our future leaders.  While I will make every effort to separate fiction and non-fiction, Ill go ahead and say right now that in today’s 24/7 news cycle, outrageous stories are picked up and run with and a well put together fabrication may get airtime on the big three before anyone knows its fake.  That being said if I post something that I later find to be false, Ill update the post and own up to the mistake.

‘Gender inclusive’ school district says drop ‘boys and girls,’ call kids ‘purple penguins’

Editors Opinion – At the end of this year I will ask the readers to vote on the stupidest schoolstupidity.com story.  I think my head will explode if this one doesn’t win the prize and the reason is simple.  If anything in the next few months ends up being more completely moronic, I just think I will lose what little faith I have left that anyone in our education system has an IQ over 75!  I have nothing more to say, this level of stupidity speaks for itself.  I really had to double check to make sure this story wasn’t really something from TheOnion.com sadly though, this is a factual story.

I will only add this one statement, to the people of Lincoln Nebraska, if a single member of this school board who supported this idiocy remains in office after your next elections, you too are idiots!

Source – FoxNews.com

The fine folks who run the school system in Lincoln, Neb., are on a campaign to make their classrooms gender-inclusive. And that means teachers will no longer refer to boys and girls … as boys and girls.

“Don’t use phrases such as ‘boys and girls,’ ‘you guys,’ ‘ladies and gentlemen,’ and similarly gendered expressions to get kids’ attention,” reads a handout from the Lincoln Public Schools that was given to teachers.

The handout was part of an effort to educate teachers and administrators about transgender issues, educators told the Lincoln Journal Star.

“The agenda we’re promoting is to help all kids succeed,” Brenda Leggiardo the district’s coordinator of social workers and counselors told the newspaper. “We have kids who come to us with a whole variety of circumstances, and we need to equitably serve all kids.”

So instead of asking boys and girls to line up as boys or girls, teachers have been encouraged to segregate the children by whether they prefer skateboards or bikes, or whether they like milk or juice.

“Always ask yourself, ‘Will this configuration create a gendered space?’” the handout stated.

Teachers Union Sues Over Evaluations

New Mexico’s second-largest teachers union filed a lawsuit Monday, asking a judge to declare the state’s teacher evaluation system illegal.

In the suit, the National Education Association New Mexico argues state law gives school districts authority over teacher evaluations and the system Education Secretary-designate Hanna Skandera put in place last year takes away that local control. Skandera launched the system last school year under an administrative rule after legislators twice rejected the plan.

The state Public Education Department called it a “frivolous” challenge timed to the fall elections.

The court action, filed in the 1st Judicial District, asks a judge to declare the evaluation system illegal and to prevent its further use.
